FOSL announces
a $1000 donation to the Smyrna Public Library to purchase
DVDs for the library's movie collection.
The money
was raised via a Christmas wreath silent auction held at the
annual An Evening with the Friends... holiday gathering on
December 1, 2007. 17 wreaths were donated by local businesses
and auctioned as attendees enjoyed desserts, coffee and great
conversations.
FOSL sincerely
thanks the members and local businesses whose generosity enabled
such a successful event.

The
First Annual "An Evening With The Friends" was
held tonight at the Smyrna Public Library. It was a smashing
success. Our "Friends", the members, enjoyed a
fantastic selection of desserts from local restaurants,
piano music by Linda Varella, a reading of Truman Capote's
"A Christmas Memory" by David Jones and door prizes.
More than $1000 in DVDs and Music CDs were donated to the
library's collection. The Officers
and Board of Directors of The Friends of Smyrna Library

The Friends
of Smyrna Library announced tonight at its monthly board meeting
three donations to the Smyrna Public Library totalling in
excess of $1,500. $300 was allocated to replace aging interior
holiday decorations. $300 was donated to purchase an old-fashioned
popcorn maker and cart (similar to the photo above) for the
children's program. $900 was budgeted for a set of six retractable-belt
crowd control stanchions (similar to the photo above).

The Friends

The residents
of Smyrna's Reed Place neighborhood, located off of Gann Road,
conducted a membership sign-up and donation drive for the
Smyrna Public Library this past weekend. More than $1,000
worth of materials (books, music CDs, movie DVDs, magazines)
were donated for both the library collection and the upcoming
Fall Jonquil Festival Book Sale. FOSL sincerely thanks the
residents of Reed Place for their initiative, membership support
and highly desired donations.

Renee
Rowe, left, owner of The
Wine Cellars in the Market Village, and Shelley Lewis,
center, store manager, presented a donation of $1,000 to Linda
Evans, right, President of The Friends of Smyrna Library
(FOSL) during a FOSL Wine Tasting. The funds came from a recent
Wine Stroll that drew 150 patrons.
"We wanted to do something for a local charity. The library
is a wonderful cause; a great place," Ms. Rowe said.
FOSL sincerely thanks The Wine Cellars and the Wine Stroll
attendees for their generosity and we encourage all FOSL supporters
to drop in and say "Thank You" to Ms. Rowe
and Ms. Lewis in person. The Wine Cellars hosts an educational

FOSL announced
a $700 donation to the Youth Services Splash into Summer
program today - a $200 increase over last year's donation
to the children's summer reading program.
