Friends
of Smyrna Library Schedules a Week of Activities in
Conjunction With
National Friends of Libraries Week
The Local Community Can Learn More About the Friends
Organization From October 22-28, 2006
SMYRNA, GA (October 9, 2006) - The Friends of Smyrna
Library has announced that it has scheduled a week of
activities during the week of October 22-28, 2006 at
the Smyrna Library to celebrate Friends of Smyrna Library
Week. This celebration provides an opportunity for people
in the community to attend unique activities as well
as learn about what the Friends organization does to
support the library. It is scheduled in conjunction
with the National Friends of Libraries Week which is
sponsored by Friends of Libraries USA. Full details
on the activities and times are posted on the Friends
of Smyrna Library web site at friendsofsmyrnalibrary.org,
or you can call the library at 770-431-2860.
"We're excited to be able to develop activities
during the week for our local community so they can
learn more about our great library here in Smyrna and
also get a chance to see what the Friends organization
does to support the library," stated Linda Evans,
president of the Friends of Smyrna Library organization.
A number of activities are planned for the weeklong
celebration. Satchiko Kogure, whose origami Christmas
Tree exhibit is currently on display at the Smyrna Library
galleries, will host a workshop on origami party plates
for any occasion on Monday, October 23 and photographer
Tom Kells, whose work is also on display at the Smyrna
galleries, will host a question and answer session on
photography topics on Tuesday, October 24. A book discussion,
a children's program, a ghost story program and a basket
weaving workshop are also planned during the week. The
festivities conclude on Saturday, October 28 with a
Fall Jonquil Festival and a Friends of Smyrna Library
book sale.
"This celebration comes a great time for our Friends
organization," explained Ms. Evans. "We have
initiated a membership program to help grow the membership
of our organization. These activities are just a small
sample of what our organization does for the library
throughout the year. We have so much fun doing these
events and with a larger organization, we can do even
more. I hope it will inspire people within our community
to get involved."
