NEWS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November - December Gallery Exhibits Announced by Smyrna Library
Colored Pencil Drawings and Wooden Toys are Featured

SMYRNA, GA (October 20, 2006) - The Friends of Smyrna Library has announced that the Smyrna Library Galleries will feature colored pencil drawings by Carol Sorenson from November 6 through December 31, 2006 in the art gallery. Wooden toys created by Les McEwing will appear in the display cases throughout the month of November. The exhibits are on display daily during regular library operating hours and are located on the second floor of the Smyrna Library at 100 Village Green Circle in the Smyrna Village. For more information please visit friendsofsmyrnalibrary.org.

"Carol's drawings focus on a number of familiar subject matters, including wild birds, flowers, and animals which would be recognized by many Americans," stated Dorothy Sibert, coordinator of the Smyrna Library Galleries. "She has spent years living close to these animals and has thoroughly researched them, giving them a personality of their own in her drawings. It is sure to give our visitors a unique perspective on these seemingly ordinary animals."

Mr. McEwing lives in Acworth, GA. He began making toys in the 1970s. In 1992 he began making toys in earnest for his family, the neighbors' children and eventually the community. He has a passion for creating toys for children that will provide them with years of enjoyment and be truly memorable. His creations include wooden trains, tractors, truck, and cradles and he decorates them with smiley faces and colorful stickers.
The Smyrna Library Galleries, which are managed by the Friends of Smyrna Library, are showcases for the works of local artists, craftspeople and collectors who have something unique to share with the larger community. The Friends of Smyrna Library organization is continuously seeking thought-provoking and visually appealing exhibits to feature in the gallery.

The Friends of Smyrna Library is a non-profit organization that has served the Smyrna Library since 1991. The organization develops and executes various adult programs and helps fund children programs to promote appreciation for the library and to grow its membership. The Friends of Smyrna Library is the sponsor of "Murder Goes South," a southern mystery book festival that brings authors and readers throughout the region together for discussions, workshops and more. It is the highlight of the Friends yearly program schedule. To learn more about the Friends of Smyrna Library, visit friendsofsmyrnalibrary.org.
