NEWS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January and February 2007 Gallery Exhibits Announced by Smyrna Library

SMYRNA, GA (December 28, 2006) - The Friends of Smyrna Library has announced that the Smyrna Library Galleries will feature the artwork of Walter Cumming from January through February 2007 in the art gallery. A display of artwork produced by the students and instructors from the Vinings School of Art will appear in the display cases throughout the months of January and February. The exhibits are on display daily during regular library operating hours and are located on the second floor of the Smyrna Library at 100 Village Green Circle in the Smyrna Village. For more information please visit friendsofsmyrnalibrary.org.

"Walter Cumming is an artist for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution," stated Dorothy Sibert, coordinator of the Smyrna Library Galleries. "His newspaper illustrations have bridged the gap from brush, ink and easel to the digital environment and his unique ability to add another dimension to real-life scenes is well worth examining."

Mr. Cumming is an Atlanta native and he attended the Rhode Island School of Design.
"The Vinings School of Art opened its doors in April 2006 in the Smyrna and Vinings area and the school focuses on nurturing the artistic talents of children, starting at an early age," stated Sibert. "The program teaches a wide variety of art including pottery, painting, drawing and jewelry making and we thought it would be good to highlight some of the great work the students have accomplished this year."

The Smyrna Library Galleries, which are managed by the Friends of Smyrna Library, are showcases for the works of local artists, craftspeople and collectors who have something unique to share with the larger community. The Friends of Smyrna Library organization is continuously seeking thought-provoking and visually appealing exhibits to feature in the gallery.

The Friends of Smyrna Library is a non-profit organization that has served the Smyrna Library since 1991. The organization develops and executes various adult programs and helps fund children programs to promote appreciation for the library and to grow its membership. The Friends of Smyrna Library is the sponsor of "Murder Goes South," a southern mystery book festival that brings authors and readers throughout the region together for discussions, workshops and more. It is the highlight of the Friends yearly program schedule. To learn more about the Friends of Smyrna Library, visit friendsofsmyrnalibrary.org.
