NEWS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March - April Gallery Exhibits Announced by Smyrna Library

A Series of Quilts by Carole Noonan Will Be on Display

SMYRNA, GA (February 25, 2007) - The Friends of Smyrna Library has announced that the Smyrna Library Galleries will feature a quilt collection by Atlanta resident Carole Noonan from March 1 through April 30, 2007. The exhibit will be on display daily during regular library operating hours and are located on the second floor of the Smyrna Library at 100 Village Green Circle in the Smyrna Village. For more information please visit friendsofsmyrnalibrary.org.

"Carole's quilts are not only creative in design, but they also represent important themes in her life" stated Dorothy Sibert, coordinator of the Smyrna Library Galleries. "Quilting has always been a means of self expression and Carole has told us how fond she is of pictorial quilts, as they reveal something personal about the person who made the quilt. She has included two of these types of quilts as part of the display in our galleries."

Ms. Noonan has been involved in sewing since her childhood and learned embroidery stitches from her grandmother; the same stitches that she now uses to embellish her quilts and pillows. As she was creating six-square baby quilts, the demand grew so much that she enlisted her 93 year old mother to help embroider the designs. The exhibit includes one of her first sunbonnet quilts, as well as a family photo quilt and two special quilt projects with her grandsons.

The Smyrna Library Galleries, which are managed by the Friends of Smyrna Library, are showcases for the works of local artists, craftspeople and collectors who have something unique to share with the larger community. The Friends of Smyrna Library organization is continuously seeking thought-provoking and visually appealing exhibits to feature in the gallery.

The Friends of Smyrna Library is a non-profit organization that has served the Smyrna Library since 1991. The organization develops and executes various adult programs and helps fund children programs to promote appreciation for the library and to grow its membership. The Friends of Smyrna Library is the sponsor of "Murder Goes South," a southern mystery book festival that brings authors and readers throughout the region together for discussions, workshops and more. It is the highlight of the Friends yearly program schedule. To learn more about the Friends of Smyrna Library, visit friendsofsmyrnalibrary.org.
